Being a wedding photographer full time means that I get inquiries for new wedding bookings all the time, but did you know that there are certain questions you should be asking your potential wedding photographer before hiring them? Don’t worry, I am here to help. Here are questions you should ask before hiring your wedding photographer:

10 General Questions to ask:

1. What is your style and how do you approach a wedding day?
2. Are you insured?
3. What is your cancelation policy?
4. How long will it take to get my images after the wedding?
5. Do you limit how many images you take/deliver?
6. Do you offer albums or prints?
7. Do you offer payment plans
8. Is an engagement session included?
9. Can I add a second photographer to my collection?
10. Do you have any travel fees?

10 In-Depth Questions to ask:

1. What is your style and how do you approach a wedding day?
2. What will happen if you are unable to attend the wedding?
3. How would you handle if our schedule falls behind on the day?
4. How do you decide which images you deliver?
5. What information will you require from me before the wedding?
6. How will you come dressed to our event?
7. Are you able to provide full galleries similar to our wedding?
8. If you’ve not worked at our venue before will you scout it before?
9. What is included in the editing/retouching?
10. What if we do not want our photos used online for marketing?

While there are many more questions to ask your potential wedding photographer during your consultation, these are ones I would be sure to ask. Having clear communication and being direct about what you are needing and wanting in a wedding photographer is very important. You will want to get a good comfortable vibe from them when you are talking over the phone or in person.

One more question you can ask them is what the experience will be like working with them. How will they be communicating and providing information to you? When you hire a wedding photographer they are so much more than the one who will be taking pretty photos. Building a relationship with that person is super important.
