Every single Cambridge Mill Wedding that I have ever photographed I adore. This Cambridge Wedding Venue is stunning. From the interior charm to the stunning views from the chapel, this venue offers a unique atmosphere unlike any other venue in the region. I first met with Lauren and Mark just before Christmas and they were getting ready to jet off to the UK to spend the holidays with Mark’s mom and family. They had no venue booked, no dress purchased, but they were engaged and in love. We chatted about venues, photography and their love story. We hit if off right away. I left this meeting with hope that I would get to spend their wedding day with them. Well, the holidays came and went and we met again in February to secure their wedding day and I could not have been more thrilled.
Even though Lauren planned this wedding in just a few short months, no detail was overlooked. From the florals, dresses, personalized hangers, jewellery, and bridesmaids gifts it was perfect. She got the ladies the most beautiful necklace and earrings from Hudson’s Bay and wrapped them up and it matched the girls dresses to a tee! Lauren’s pearl earrings and necklace were borrowed from her grandmother they were a gift from her grandfather. They were the perfect touch to her bridal look.
Once everyone was all dolled up and ready to go we headed over to Mill Race Park, which is located right across the street from the mill, for Lauren & Mark’s first look. I seriously love doing these. I think they add a special touch of romance to the day. The girls carried Lauren’s train while Mark stood in the colosseum awaiting the arrival of his bride. Once she made it down the stairs you could see the anticipation on both of their faces. As their family and wedding party watched from above the two shared a magical moment on their wedding day.
Over the week leading up to the wedding I had many people ask me why this couple chose to get married on a Monday. While a Monday wedding is unusual there was a very important reason for this. You see, Mark’s dad had passed away in his arms when he made an impromptu visit home last year, and April 11 is his dads birthday. I think no matter what day of the week the wedding the date fell on, it was meant to be their wedding day. It was so special. I will never forget what Mark told me before they showed his mom the special surprise they had for her. He told me, “We try to make my mom cry everyday while she is here, not sad tear, but happy ones.” this was so touching and still brings tears to my eyes. What a beautiful gift of affection to give to someone. Well, when they brought his mom into the room, it was just us and them and immediately there were tears, the happy ones of course. The look in her eye, the smile on his face, pure love. On the table they had a candle for her to light in memory of him and a picture frame with his name and some lovely words. In this moment, just for a second, I had a true insight as to why I do what I do. On such a special day when someone so near to the couples heart was not able to be with them, he was. Life is a precious gift, one that is taken too soon for many. For me, this made my entire day. The relationship between Mark and his mom was so refreshing and honest.
Ahhh ceremony time! That moment when the bride and her father make their way to the alter is one of my favourite parts of the wedding day. Those few moments of silence when everyone, including the groom, await the arrival of the bride. As I looked around the room, I could see happy tears from many of their guest. The chapel overlooking the river was filled with love.
