April 1, 2020
Talk about a journey of a lifetime. Never would I have dreamt that this photography career would take me to so many beautiful places and bring so many wonderful people into my life, but here we are. On April 1, 2020, it will mark 9 years as an entrepreneur. It sounds surreal when I say it out loud.
My journey into photography, let alone a destination photographer, was not something I envisioned for myself growing up. So when people ask me how I got into photography, I simply answer, it kind of fell into my lap. I can tell you that I have always loved taking photographs, I have boxes full of prints in boxes in the basement, and I was always the girl with disposable cameras and snapping pics on my phone.
It was not until 2010 when I was a young mother at home with 1 toddler and one on the way when I decided that I did not want to go back to work for someone else. It was then that I decided to take the chance on myself and take the leap into an industry, if I am being honest, that I knew nothing about. I ended up cashing out my investments and using that money to invest in my very first DLSR camera that came with a very fancy kit lens.
I spent months learning how to use the camera and doing lots of free photo sessions for family and friends to learn, get experience and build a portfolio. I think the very first wedding I did was for a client who paid $500.00. I remember that first wedding, I was terrified! At that time, I did not know that I should have spent many hours second shooting for other companies, but I managed. Needless to say, I had many amazing friends who had hired me to document their wedding days and even my first few destination weddings were for great friends. Who knows where I would be without their support to get my business off the ground.
Here I am, 9 years later, with hundreds of weddings and sessions in my portfolio. I’ve been blessed to have been able to travel to 3 continents and 18 countries for weddings and portraits. I am so excited to start a new phase in my business as an educator and to help encourage and teach those up and coming photographers all the essentials I learned the hard way.
Below you will see many happy faces of clients and second shooters that I have had the privilege of working with over the years. I have many more but didn’t want to overload. I can not thank each and every one of you for choosing to hire me, trusting me to document your life’s memories and for referring me to your very own family and friends. It truly means the world to me to have such amazing clients.
Now it is time to celebrate! As always, I like to offer a promotion on my business anniversary, so why would this one be any different!
